Planning for Tomball Site Conditions
Tomball's position in the Cypress Creek headwater system means runoff from Tomball-area properties contributes directly to the hydraulic load that Cypress Creek carries south toward Addicks Reservoir. Harris County Flood Control District has instrumented gauges along Little Cypress Creek and upper Cypress Creek specifically because of the volume contribution from this corridor. That instrumentation data, combined with post-Harvey FIRM remapping, has clarified which Tomball parcels are now in Zone AE versus the Zone X designation many held pre-2017. We reference gauge station data from the Harris County Flood Warning System to contextualize peak-intensity events at Tomball when specifying drainage percolation targets. Turf systems installed without that context—using generic specifications developed for drier climates—consistently underperform in the Cy-Fair region's high-intensity summer storm pattern.
